About Us
Rooted in reliability.
Why a civil engineer’s son built an IT company just for architects, engineers, and builders.

Our Story
I grew up knowing two things: what a variable message board is, and how to fix a computer.
My father is a civil engineer. Take Your Kid to Work Day meant job sites, traffic counting equipment, and learning things most kids had no idea about, like exactly how long the stripes on a roadway are. I grew up seeing the long hours, the pressure, and what it felt like when everything had to go right before a deadline.
Technology was the other constant. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved working with it. I stayed up way too late taking things apart just to see how they worked.
Aspen IT Group grew out of both of those worlds. I know what a bad technology day looks like when a submittal is due tomorrow. And I knew most firms were either going without real IT support or settling for a generalist who had never heard of their software.
Before I took on a single client, I spent a day inside a civil engineering firm, watching how the team actually works. Their IT company could install software and swap out computers. But when a license kicked an engineer out in the middle of a design, or a project file wouldn’t open, the fix fell to one of their own engineers. He was doing IT on top of his real job, and every hour he spent on it came out of the firm’s profit.
That felt like a problem worth solving.
Why we’re called Aspen.
An aspen grove looks like a forest of separate trees. But underground, many of them grow from one shared root system. Pando, an aspen grove in Utah, has tens of thousands of trunks and is one of the largest living things on earth. I named the company after the aspen for three reasons.
Strong roots you never see.
Nobody walks through a grove admiring the roots, but the roots are why every tree stands. Good IT works the same way. Your backups, security, and network sit below the surface. When they’re solid, nobody notices. They just hold everything up.
One root system, many trees.
Your firm works like a grove. Every person, computer, and file is tied to the same roots. When the roots are healthy, the whole team does its best work. When one part is weak, everyone feels it. That’s why we take care of the whole system, not one computer at a time.
It comes back after a fire.
When fire sweeps through, aspen roots survive underground and send up new trees fast. Tested backups do the same for your firm. If a bad day hits, like a failed drive or a ransomware attack, what’s underneath holds. You get back to work instead of starting over.
That’s what “Rooted in reliability” means to us.

What you can count on.
You talk to the person doing the work
No call center. No ticket that sits in a queue. When you reach out, you get someone who knows your firm, your setup, and your name.
Problems get fixed before you see them
We watch your computers and servers in the background. A failing drive or a full disk gets caught early, not right before a submittal.
Backups we actually test with you
Your files get copied every day, and we test that the copies really work. A backup nobody tests is just a guess.
Plain English, always
No jargon and no overpromising. You get the truth about your setup, even when the truth is “you’re in good shape.”
You own your stuff
Your passwords, files, and records belong to you. If you ever leave, we don’t lock you in.
Hands on experience
We’ve built networks and computers from the ground up and put out plenty of IT fires.
Mission & Vision
Mission
To take IT off the plates of small architecture, engineering, and construction firms, so nobody gets stuck as the IT person and the whole team can focus on the work, not the technology.
Vision
A future where every firm has IT help that knows what their software needs, keeps their files safe, and never leaves them figuring it out alone.

Based in Knoxville. Working wherever you are.
Aspen IT Group is based in Knoxville, and East Tennessee is home. For firms close by, we can stop by your office when a problem needs hands on help, like setting up a new workstation or tracking down a network issue.
But most IT work doesn’t need someone standing at your desk. Watching your computers, fixing problems, running and testing backups, and keeping your security up to date all happen remotely. So where your firm is located doesn’t change the help you get. Whether you’re down the road or across the country, you get the same person, the same care, and the same plain answers.
That matters more now than it used to. Plenty of design firms have engineers working from home, project managers out in the field, and staff spread across more than one state. We support your whole team wherever they work, so nobody gets left behind just because they’re not in the main office.
