Autodesk Construction Cloud vs. BIM 360: What Changed and What You Need to Know

You log into your Autodesk cloud and the names are different again. BIM 360, then Autodesk Construction Cloud, and now the logo says Autodesk Forma. Are you paying more for the same thing, or did your tools actually change?

Here is the short version. BIM 360 is the old platform. It still runs, but Autodesk has frozen it, so it gets no new features. The replacement was called Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). On March 24, 2026, Autodesk renamed ACC to Autodesk Forma. The tools got new names too. Autodesk Docs is now Forma Data Management. BIM Collaborate Pro is now Forma Design Collaboration. Autodesk Build is now Forma Build. Nothing actually moved. No data was migrated. Your logins, URLs, and files all stayed put. Only the labels changed.

What BIM 360 was

Start with the old world so the new one makes sense.

BIM 360 was Autodesk’s cloud for sharing models, coordinating design, and running construction projects. For years it was the answer when a firm wanted Revit models in the cloud.

It came in pieces. BIM 360 Docs for files. BIM 360 Design for live Revit collaboration. BIM 360 Build and Field for construction. It worked. Plenty of firms still run on it today.

There is no easy button. Autodesk says it plainly: you cannot automatically migrate a BIM 360 project, and version history does not come with you.

Is BIM 360 going away?

Not on any published date. This one gets exaggerated online, so here is the truth.

Autodesk says there are currently no plans to retire the BIM 360 platform. But it will get no new features and no improvements. Frozen, not dead.

Two older pieces did die for real:

• BIM 360 Team shut off on December 31, 2023.
• BIM 360 Glue retired on July 31, 2026.

If you still have anything living in Glue, that data needs a new home now.

The name changes, in one list

Old name, then the current name.

• BIM 360 Docs, then Autodesk Docs, now Forma Data Management
• BIM 360 Design, then BIM Collaborate Pro, now Forma Design Collaboration
• BIM 360 Build and Field (plus PlanGrid), then Autodesk Build, now Forma Build
• Autodesk Takeoff, now Forma Takeoff
• Your “account” is now called a Hub. Account admins are now Hub Admins.

One note on PlanGrid. It is not gone. It is closed to new customers and frozen, and existing crews still log in. If your GC lives in PlanGrid, they can keep living there for now.

The mistake that costs real money

BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro are not the same product. Only Pro includes Revit Cloud Worksharing (the service that lets your team sync to the same Revit model in the cloud). Plain BIM Collaborate does not. It also does not include Collaboration for Civil 3D or Plant 3D.

Buy the wrong one and your Revit team cannot sync. The project stalls while you sort out licensing.

It is simpler now, thankfully. Autodesk no longer sells plain BIM Collaborate at all. Those features live in Forma Design Collaboration (the old Pro), in Navisworks Manage, or in the Forma for Model Management bundle.

So if someone quotes you “BIM Collaborate,” ask which one. The answer should be Pro, now called Forma Design Collaboration.

Before you buy a single seat, check what you own.

Forma Data Management (the old Autodesk Docs) comes with the AEC Collection. If your firm subscribes to the AEC Collection, you already have the cloud file home. You do not need to buy it again.

Since March 25, 2026, a version called Forma Data Management Essentials is included for standalone AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D subscribers too.

We see firms pay twice for this. It is the most common Autodesk cloud overspend at a small firm. Check your Autodesk account first.

Should you move from BIM 360 to Forma?

Usually yes. But the timing is yours, and the honest answer is not “move everything.”

Start new projects in Forma. That is where every new feature and fix goes. Starting fresh work on a frozen platform just means you migrate it later.

Here is the part most articles skip. Autodesk’s recommendation is not the only thing that matters. Your consultants matter more.

For example, let’s say your structural engineer and your GC are both on a BIM 360 hub. You start the new job in Forma. Now the team is split across two hubs. That means two sets of permissions, two admin chores, and Bridge (Autodesk’s tool for sharing files between hubs) running in the middle. For a five person firm, hub sprawl is a bigger daily headache than a missing feature.

So the rule is not “follow Autodesk.” The rule is this. Pick the hub your project team can actually work in, and start new jobs there.

Before you move a single file, read this

Here is where firms get hurt. There is no easy button.

Autodesk is clear about it. There is no way to automatically migrate projects from BIM 360 to the newer platform. Project data has to be downloaded and re uploaded by hand.

And it does not all come with you.

• Version history does not survive. Replace a Revit cloud workshared model with the same name and the version history is gone.
• Markups and comments do not transfer with Autodesk’s Replication Tool.
• Issues, RFIs, and submittals do not move on their own either.

So do not migrate a live Revit worksharing model in the middle of a job. Archive the old project. Start the new one clean. Proactive is better than reactive.

Two more things nobody mentions. Your storage region (US, Canada, Europe, UK, and others) is locked in when the hub is created, and that matters if a client has data rules. And you will likely pay for and admin both hubs for a while during the switch. Budget for the overlap.

Do not do this if

• Do not switch mid project if models are actively workshared. Finish the job first.
• Do not switch alone if your consultants or your GC are on the other hub.
• Do not buy new seats before you check what your AEC Collection already includes.
• Do not delete anything on BIM 360 until the new hub is confirmed good and you have a separate archive.

What about the next rename?

Autodesk has renamed this platform twice in about five years. It may happen again. The jobs stay the same even when the labels move. Your files, your coordination, your construction management. When a name confuses you, check the Autodesk product page or ask your reseller before you buy anything.
